Poking around

After getting moved in a bit I started to explore. ChatGPT is a huge help. Hats off to everyone before me that had to do everything the old fashioned way. I can’t imagine.
I asked ChatGPT to give me ideas of things to do to build experience and familiarity. I am interested in trying other distros in the future, but understand that I have a lot to learn.
I began learning some terminal commands like:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
apt list -- upgradable
While the updates were going I realized I had no backups in place. Frantically, I checked with ChatGPT to see how much trouble I was in. I’ve been living in WordPress for over six years and running a ton of updates like that would be risky. Then, ChatGPT brought me up to speed about how updates are created, how they get rolled out, and just how safe it really it. I was shocked to say the least. I love Linux already.
Another area ChatGPT suggested I explore is with XFCE and MATE. It was really interesting learning about the differences between them and Cinnamon, the use cases, and how these work with Mint. I just got done installing XFCE and going to check it out. I’ll look at MATE next.
More eventually.
